Singer Lien De Greef, better known as Lady Linn, is such a busy bee. The number “That’s allright” did exceptionally well this year in the Flemish charts and with her accompanying band “TheMagnificent Seven” she has managed to get onto every Flemish stage. Besides being the lead lady singer in Skeemz (new record in 2009), she also teaches at the Ghent Music Academy, and she dances for fun at ‘t Schoon Vertier. So there you are!
CZ: Why are you still living in Ghent and why not in Brussels?
Ghent is a beautiful and cosy city. I was born here. Most of my friends live here, I went to university here and I shared student houses with my female friends. I feel at home here. The people with whom I make music virtually all live in the Ghent region.
CZ: Which spot in Ghent would you recommend to us?
The Muinkpark. This is a charming little park near the Decascoop which even very few Ghent residents know about. It is never busy there and you will see mainly students or people from the neighbourhood taking a break, having a picnic or drinking pre-dinner drinks. Small animals, such as hens and ducks, roam around freely. It is completely surrounded by houses which all look out onto the park, which gives you feeling of safety.
And for a good night out I would recommend to everyone the Charlatan on the Vlasmarkt. By the way, that is where I will be singing with Red D this Friday.
CZ: Could you also tell us about a favourite eating place?
El Negocito, which is a Chilean café that serves food just across from the ABC Cinema. There you can eat very well for hardly any money at all. They always serve freshly squeezed fruit juices, the atmosphere is not at all dull, and they play a lot of live music. (Ed. Note: A lot of jazz.)
CZ: And from what I hear the Pisco Sour is not bad either.
